Papyrus was not always a large company it was formed by an array of merchant operations that were significant in their home markets, but were too small to make any impact on a European scale. Invented by the Egyptians in approximately 3000 B.C. Then they placed the stalks running up and down in one layer and side to side in the other. Papyrus had simply reached a point in history where the concept of a domestic market no longer made sense. Although not paper in the true sense, papyrus was the first writing material to assume many of the properties of what we now know as paper. Steps: 1 To make paper, Ancient Egyptians flattened and smashed stalks of the papyrus (puh-PIE-rus) plant. ![]() Found in the tombs and temples of Ancient Egyptians as far back as 2700 B.C. It was made from the pith of the papyrus plant, Cyperus papyrus, a wetland sedge. This development gained momentum in the 1980s – partly because new EU rules paved the way for the shift and partly due to the markets in Eastern Europe opening up. Papyrus paper is the first paper in history. Papyrus (/ p p a r s / p-PY-rs) is a material similar to thick paper that was used in ancient times as a writing surface. The history of Papyrus clearly illustrates the development of the industry during the 20th century – a transition from a small scale business in a fragmented market to consolidation and Pan-European operations. The old mill in Mölndal has now been closed for many years and today, Papyrus is recognised as a leading European merchant offering customers efficient supply solutions for paper products. In connection with the merger of Stora and Enso in 1998, the Papyrus brand was chosen as the name for the European merchant operation. The Swedish Wallenberg dynasty bought the mill in 1895 and made it famous under the name Papyrus. Egyptian papyrus is made by overlapping pieces of the stalk of the papyrus plant and pounding or pressing the pieces together. ![]() Production was gradually industrialised and towards the end of the 19th century, Mölndal could boast the most technically advanced paper mill in Sweden. The first paper mill in Mölndal, just outside Gothenburg in the west of Sweden, was established in 1653. However, the term papyrus is associated with paper and the plant that produces paper. It grew wildly in the Delta of the Nile in the north of Egypt. It is considered the most valuable literary source that helps to understand more about Egyptian Civilization. Since then, the company has grown to become a leading European paper merchant. Papyrus plays a crucial role in reconstructing the history of Egypt. The history of Papyrus began back in 1895 with the acquisition of a paper mill located in Mölndal on the Swedish west coast. ![]()
